Welcome to Friends of Streatham Cemetery
Cherishing history, wildlife and beauty
Streatham Cemetery is actually in Tooting! A beautiful open area a few steps from Tooting Broadway – a breathing space in the city with abundant wildlife and a rich local history.
The Friends are made up of families of those buried there, neighbours of the Cemetery and those interested in how our community can flourish through contact with nature in this tranquil 40-acre space.
The Friends are working to improve the condition of the Cemetery as a burial ground, develop it as a place of quiet recreation for the local population and a haven for birds, bees and small mammals.
Streatham Cemetery has been neglected and under used. The Friends would like to see the cemetery better cherished andre-imagined as a community resource for peaceful recreation for people of all ages and all cultures.
We hold a range of activities in the cemetery: Open Days, Meet the Bees, Drawing and Painting, Plant Walks, Bat Walks, Apple Dressing, Local History Talks and Tomb Trails.
Well-managed open spaces can bring communities together. The Friends seek to support community life, actively seeking out and listening to the views of all users of the Cemetery. We seek to improve consultation, planning and participation in the area of the Cemetery.
